Escape from Bait Abdullah
2024
Escape from Bait Abdullah is a stealth-based exploration game where you play as a graffiti artist trapped inside an abandoned house in Bahrain. With the police closing in, your goal is to recover all of your hidden spray cans scattered throughout the space and find a way out before you are caught. This game was inspired by a real-life encounter in my childhood.

The goal of this project was to create a level inspired by a real-life landmark and suit it towards a specific game genre. I chose the iconic abandoned house, Bait Abdullah, located in my hometown of Bahrain. I then aimed to create a stealth game where you have to strategically find collectibles while avoiding enemies, giving the player multiple ways they can approach the situation while also prompting certain actions through the placing of collectibles.
First, I visited the location and gathered reference images. I then used these to create a floor plan and initial mood sketches. I used these to create an initial greybox, making the space cluttered, yet grand. I intended for the player to have lots of places to hide and take cover, with the top of the map being a vantage point. I wanted to create opportunities for the player to move between areas such as vents to move between rooms and lifts to move between floors.
The enemy has points they patrol and perception for sound and sight, so if the player jumps it causes a noise event which they investigate. This was done to make the player cautious about where they’re going and how to approach different areas.
